This Sucks
My new debit card which is only 4 months old has been hacked. Due to issues with the Hannaford Supermarket chair, it was determined about 5 months ago that my information was stolen. Even though nothing occurred at the time my credit union felt it was best to issue new debit cards with new account numbers and pin numbers.
I received a phone call yesterday from the Visa fraud department. There was a suspicious charge of 89.99 that morning to a company called g.com premium service. I tried googleing the name and came up with nothing. It was suspicious because there was no description of the company with the charge. So they called to see if I knew of the charge, which I did not. They have cancelled that debit card. Then I hear about 11 people arrested for stealing over 40,000 credit card number info from multiple businesses.
So this evening I had to have a fraud alert on my credit report. I contacted my credit card company to put a fraud warning on that account. I still need to contact my utilities to let them know.
This really sucks. I never use my debit card on line so I do not think it occurred through my computer, plus I have firewall, and update my virus control and scan on a regular basis. My only feeling is that it had to be through one of the stores that I shopped at got hacked into.
